NHAI Implements Stricter Guidelines for FASTag Affixation at Toll Plazas

NHAI has disseminated detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) to all agencies responsible for collecting user fees and to concessionaires, instructing them to enforce double the user fee for vehicles lacking a properly affixed FASTag on their front windshield. Information regarding these penalties will be prominently displayed at all toll plazas to alert highway users.

According to an official statement from NHAI, CCTV cameras stationed at toll plazas will capture the vehicle registration number (VRN) in cases where FASTags are not properly affixed. This initiative aims to maintain accurate records of fees charged and the presence of vehicles in toll lanes.

Vehicles Without Properly Affixed FASTags Face Double Toll Charges, Warns NHAI

FASTags that are not affixed to the designated vehicle as required will render electronic toll collection (ETC) ineligible at user-fee plazas and will incur double the toll fee, with the possibility of being blacklisted. Issuing banks have been directed to ensure that FASTags are securely affixed to the front windshield of the designated vehicle during issuance from various points of sale (POS).

NHAI collects user fees on national highways based on the National Highway Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008. Currently, user fees are collected across approximately 45,000 km of national highways and expressways at around 1,000 toll plazas nationwide.
