India’s second-largest telecom operator, Bharti Airtel, announced on Friday a hike in mobile tariffs by 10-21%.

This follows Reliance Jio’s recent hike, unveiling a series of new unlimited plans effective from July 3, 2024.

Sunil Bharti Mittal’s telecom firm stated it will revise mobile tariffs from July 3, 2024, with a very modest price increase of less than 70 paise per day on entry-level plans. Bharti Airtel emphasized that the Average Revenue per User (ARPU) for mobile telecom services needs to rise above Rs 300 for the financial health of telecom businesses in India.

Bharti Airtel also welcomed the industry’s move to ‘repair tariffs.’ Once the new tariffs take effect, Airtel prepaid customers will have to pay more for the company’s data and calling plans.

On Thursday, Jio announced a tariff increase across segments, excluding feature phones. The hike ranges from 13-25% for base-level prepaid monthly packs to annual packs, while postpaid plans see a 13-17% increase.

Additionally, the minimum monthly plan required to avail unlimited 5G data has been raised from Rs 239 to Rs 349.
